Driving to the Jemez Mountains on NM Hwy 550. The mountains almost appear fake, like wallpaper. Try hiking to them. Your mind assesses the distance to be about an hour or so trek. Reality sets in. Farther than you think. I love this about my native state.

Farther Than You Think is lovely! I too, love the scenery along 550 going North to Jemez Springs. (who can not)? It's true what you say about distance! Just here in Placitas I'd walk the trails and wonder how long it would take to get to the base of the mountains....as yet haven't made it. I also like Legend Has It very much.. The size and horizontal shape of it can fit in the place of a painting I am not crazy about..
